Elmir MIRZOEV (1970) was born in Baku, Azerbaijani composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal pieces that have been performed very successfully in different festivals in Azerbaijan, CIS countries, Europe, Mexico, Mongolia and Japan, he is also active in the promotion of new music and the organizer of the contemporary and the traditional music festivals in Azerbaijan. Organized 11 international cultural projects since 1996. Studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (now the Baku Music Academy) from 1989-94, in the composition class of Faraj Karaev (post-graduated in 1999). In 1994, he participated in an international composition course, led by James Dillon and Ole Lützhow-Holm at the University of Gothenburg and in 1995; he participated in the Musik aus Aserbaidschan Festival in Winterthur (Switzerland). Also in 1995, he served as an assistant to Faraj Karaev at the Baku Music Academy, and he became the Artistic Director of the Initiative Center of Contemporary Music - Ensemble SoNoR. From 1995-99, he studied in the post-graduate course with Faraj Karaev, and in 1996-97, he received two commissions from Pro Helvetia, a Swiss cultural foundation, and subsequently embarked on a concert tour with other Azerbaijani composers in Switzerland. Since 1998, he has taught in the composition department at the Baku Music Academy. In 1999 participated in the V International Young Composers Meeting in Apeldoorn/Holland, hosted by Louis Andriessen and Michael Smetanin, with Ensemble de Ereprijs. In 2006 he was in Stockhausen Courses in Kürten. In addition, he was one of the six composers featured in the New Music Marathon, with author's concert and workshop in Prague/Czech. He has also workshops, masterclasses and lectures in Tbilisi State Conservatory/Georgia (1999), Uzbekistan Composers Union (2000), Krakow University/Poland (2001), Dresdner Zentrum für zeitgenössische Musik/Germany (2003), Van University/Turkey (2004). His music was performed at the in the GIFT International Festival of the Arts in Tbilisi/Georgia(1998), Asian Music Weeks in Yogyakarta/Indonesia (1999), Yokohama (2000) and Tokyo (2003), Musica Nova Festival of Contemporary Music in Sofia/Bulgaria(1999), Ilhom-XX Contemporary Music Festival in Tashkent /Uzbekistan(2000), the Third (in Baku/Azerbaijan-2000) and Fourth European Composers Informal Meeting(in Krakow/Poland-2001), November Music Festival in Germany, Belgium and Holland (2000), 2 Days and 2 Nights Contemporary Art Festivals in Odessa/Ukraine (in 2001, 2003 and 2004), Young.Euro.Classic Music Festival in Berlin (2001), Roaring Hoofs Actual Music Festival in Ulan-Bator & Gobi Desert/Mongolia (2002). In 2003 his music was performed at the 17. Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik and 30.Jubiläum des Schlagzeugensembles der Freiburger Musikhochschule (Germany); Festival Musica in Irpina and Festival Spaziomusica (Italy); Festival Internacional Cervantino (Mexico). In 2004 participant in composition seminar at Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar, music was performed at the saqARTvelo International Contemporary Music Days in Tbilisi/Georgia, also prize winner "Best of Symphony Music Work" by Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism in 2005. In 2006 he was as participant in Stockhausen-Courses 2006 in Kürten and in international contemporary music Festival in Eckernförde (Germany). Commissions for Pro Helvetia Foundation (Switzerland), Dresdner Zentrum für zeitgenössische Musik und Freiburger Musikhochschule(Germany), Verein zur Förderung zeitgenössischer Österreichischer Musik (Austria), Association Accroche Note (France) etc.  Conductors Peter Keuschnig and Roland Freisitzer (Austria), Yashar Imanov (Azerbaijan), Dragomir Yossifov (Bulgaria), Einar Nielsen (Denmark), Bernhard Wulff (Germany), Marco Pedrazzini (Italy), Wim Boerman (Holland), Kazufumi Yamashita (Japan), Fritz Voeglin (Switzerland), Volodymyr Runchak (Ukraine ), among others, have conducted his music. It has been performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra , Sinfonieorchester Basel , Ensemble de Ereprijs (Holland), ALEA Ensemble (Macedonia), Ensemble Accroche Note and saxophonist Paul Wehage (France), Freiburg Percussion Ensemble and Ensemble Reflexion K (Germany), Ensemble Sensus (Georgia), Ensemble Musica Nova (Bulgaria), Icarus Ensemble (Italy), Ensemble SoNoR (Azerbaijan ), Ensemble MW2 (Poland), Gothenburg University Ensemble (Sweden), TaG Ensemble and Duo Matthias Arter & Markus Hochuli (Switzerland), Seattle Chamber Player Ensemble (USA), soprano Sylvia Nopper , guitarists Christoph Jäggin and percussionist Jacqueline Ott (Switzerland), pianist Gül?an Annagieva (Azerbaijan), among others.
