Gianni Nazzareno Francia began his musical studies at L'Aquila Conservatoire and there he obtained a piano first class diploma in 1985. After studying with Tito Aprea, he attended International Meetings "Musica Riva" at Riva del Garda in 1988 and in 1992 got a Specialization Certificate at Accademia Musicale Pescarese under the Bruno Mezzena direction.
After qualifying in Composition in 1990 at L'Aquila Conservatore, where he was in the classes of Alessandro Sbordoni and Matteo D'Amico, he studied with Giacomo Manzoni and Franco Donatoni. Moreover, he got a Composition Specialization Course Certificate given Azio Corghi at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma.
His compositions have been executed in some important italien manifestations, for example, "Fiatifestival '96" at Riva del Garda ("Mudi" for saxophone quartet), "Varianti" at Pescara in 1997 ("Sonetto" for clarinet solo), "Progetto Musica '97 - Extra Musica" at Roma ("Suite" for harpsichord e "Due Ballate" for voice and ensemble), "Traiettorie Sonore" at Como in 1998 ("Sovrapposizioni" for four hands piano), "Incontri europei con la musica - XX" at Bergamo in 2001 ("Novantotto" for voice and three instruments), Fondazioni Concerti "Piccinni" at Bari in 2003 ("Divertissement" for saxophone and piano), "Festival Spazio Musica" at Cagliari and "Musica in Irpinia" at Avellino in 2003 ("Moto Virtuale" for ensemble), "Festival Nuova Consonanza" at Roma in 2004 ("Con ugual misura" for flute, oboe and clarinet) besides being executed also in U.S.A., Spain, Japan, Sweden, Austria , Belgium and Brazil and sent by RAI Radio Tre. In 2001, in the context of the proyect "Riraccontare Verdi", he had the commission to rewrite the verdian opera "Simon Boccanegra" by Concerts Aquilan Society "B.Barattelli". The Symphony Orchestra of the province of Bari, in opportunity of the mozartiane celebrations, commissioned him a passage for the season of the concerts of 2006.
He is the writer of the work "Compositive courses of pianistic writing" (Edizioni Berben - Ancona, 1992) and of some articles and reviews on the magazines "Il Loggione" (Avezzano),"Eunomio" (Pescara) and "FA LA UT" (Napoli); moreover, some of his compositions are published by RAI Trade and Agenda and recorded by Stradivarius and Rugginenti.
Winner of the National Competition of Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue, he teachs Composition at Bari Conservatoire "N.Piccinni".
