Massimo Berzolla

He obtained his first class diploma in organ at the “G. Nicolini” Conservatory in Piacenza, under the mentorship of L. Toja. Simultaneously, he completed advanced studies attending composing studies under C. A. Landini and subsequently gained a further diploma under the guidance of Bruno Bettinelli. With the help of L. Toja and G. Zanaboni, he perfected his mastery of organ music and again simultaneously studied orchestra conducting with both N. Samale and G. Serembe at Pescara Academy. He became chief organist at Piacenza Cathedral at a very young age and in 1995 he set up the “Maestro Giovanni” Music Chapel as part of a project promoting the Fund for the Music and the Archives of the Cathedral. He is responsible for sacred music in the Diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio and head of the “San Cristoforo” Diocese Institute for Sacred Music.
He is particularly valued as a performer of twentieth century music, plays solo organ at concerts and also works as a conductor. His compositions have been broadcasted on both radio and television (RAI-Mediaset); his work as music arranger is also noteworthy, and includes collaboration with the “Ensemble Strumentale Scaligero” (Teatro alla Scala of Milan). A CD containing his instrumental works was produced in 2004 for the “Bottega Discantica” recording company. He has also composed music for theatre, in collaboration with director Stefano Tomassini and Spiritual Drama in Music Giustina - ex
ossibus, performed in September 2001.
